Poly Battling Rope & Challenge DVD (50 ft.) - $ 134.99 Be sure to check out John
Brookfield's brand new Pole Training Manual! The synthetic poly ropes
are the best choice for a gym or indoor training (can be used outside
also). They are more durable and have a greater life span than
the manila ropes. They are braided polyester and do not shed,
and are non-abrasive making them perfect for indoor use.
Recommended rope for Pole (pulling)
System training. Poly ropes feature a plastic boot on each end
to prevent fraying. This combo includes one
(1) 50 ft. polyester Battling RopeŠ in the size of your choice
and the "Challenge Level 1" DVD. Exchanges
only - no refunds. Go beyond
the basics and into the advanced! The "Battling Ropes
Challenge" is a dynamic training DVD that shows you a wide variety of
exercises in the Battling Rope Level 1 training. In John
Brookfield's "Introduction to the Battling Ropes System" he takes you
through the basic exercises. In Level 1 he also demonstrates
the basics, but then takes you onto the intermediate exercises and then
advanced. This training DVD will
ground you and give you more than enough knowlege to prepare you to
climb the ladder and into other levels of the system. John shows you
exercises in the kneeling and seated positions, as well as demonstrates
exercises that actually will double the intensity of your training. The
Battling Ropes Challenge will train you how to sustain higher intensity
for longer durations of time. This sustained intensity is the result of
the fact that the system demands that you use constant velocity instead
of momentum. Approximate running time is 55 minutes. |

The most influential person in the study of Kung Fu's history through the Shaolin Temple is an Indian monk named Da Mo (or Ta Mo). Da Mo, also known as Bodhidarma, had been a small prince of a Southern Indian tribe. He followed the Mahayana school of Buddhism and was revered as a bodhisattva - and enlightened being who had renounced nirvana so as to save others.

Buddhism reached China during the period of the Eastern Han Ming Emperor (58 - 76 AD) and soon flourished. It is estimated that by 500 AD there were more than 10,000 Buddhist temples in China and many emperors became devout Buddhists. In 495 AD the Shaolin Temple was constructed by the order of Emperor Wei Xiao Wen (471 - 500 AD).

Exactly when Kung Fu first sprouted is unknown, with historians stating that Chinese martial forms most likely predate recorded history. Since the dawn of time there have been battles between man and animal, warring tribes, etc. during which conflicts combative techniques were executed and accumulated and passed down from generation to generation.

I think we are fortunate we live in a time where we have video so we can see these old kung fu masters perform traditional chinese martial arts. To be that mobile at their age is truely impressive. Im not a big fan of watching forms in kung fu, or any other system but this is worth watching in terms of interest.
Would be interesting to hear what they think of todays kung fu and if they think its up to the standard they would like it to be.
